Pelagic fish

Pelagic fishing of wild fish is a technique whereby certain species (called pelagic species) are fished. These include smaller marine fish, such as anchovies, sardines, and salmon. First, schools of pelagic fish are located using marine sonar echolocation equipment. Based on the results of the sonogram, it is possible to estimate the size and depth of the schools of these tiny pelagic fish species in order to properly target the capture of sardines, anchovies, and salmon. Because of their size, pelagic species accumulate far fewer toxins and than larger species, and therefore, they represent a much purer source of OMEGA3. Each product in the TRIAMEG^TM OMEGA3 family is made using ultra-pure oils from pelagic species of wild fish.

WHAT IS AN NPN NUMBER?

For all practical purposes, an NPN (Natural Product Number) is a certification that is issued by Health Canada to confirm the safety and effectiveness of natural products for specific indications. In some cases, the NPN replaces the DIN (Drug Identification Number) for products in which the main active ingredientsare of natural origin.

In this respect, NPN legislation does not apply exclusively to natural health products, but to all natural products.

Like the DIN, the NPN requires strict quality control and Health Canada approval before the product can be sold.

What is fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease characterized by widespread pain and profound fatigue. Fibromyalgia is considered a syndrome because it is a collection of symptoms rather than a clearly defined morbid process.

Symptoms

• Nonrestorative sleep, fatigue upon waking, and ankylosis
• Headache ranging from ordinary types to migraine
• Intestinal disorders; frequent diarrhea and/or constipation occurring occasionally with flatulence and nausea
• Muscle spasms
• Facial pain
• Pruritus
• Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
• Vascular disorders
• Clumsiness
• Feeling of swelling
• Chest pain
• Impaired concentration and memory loss

Frequency

• As widespread as rheumatic fever and perhaps even more painful
• Since the syndrome affects women more often than men, sex hormones may play an important role in the incidence of fibromyalgia.The current thinking is that dysfunction of the part of the central nervous system that controls pain is involved.
• Individuals with fibromyalgia generally have a much higher incidence of other chronic health issues than the general population.
• These disorders include chronic headache, irritable bowel syndrome, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), and interstitial cystitis (bladder inflammation).

Tests and Diagnosis

• Diagnosis of fibromyalgia is more difficult since there are no laboratory tests or x-ray exams for it. The diagnosis is based on two main symptoms once other diseases have been ruled out through examination and medical history:
  • Widespread pain for more than 3 months
  • Pain upon examination at 11 of the 18 pressure points

Cause

• It has been established that individuals with fibromyalgia are above all affected by low levels of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that regulates how the brain perceives fatigue and pain. It also facilitates restorative sleep.
